(Hastings, NE) – In their first match of the season, the women's tennis team locked in a 6-1 win over the Sterling Warriors on Friday afternoon.
Hasting began with a forfeit win at #3 doubles, as Sterling had only four players competing, giving junior Abby Harveson and sophomore Kayleigh Cetak the win. The Warriors won at #1 doubles, 6-2, but senior Paige Willcoxon and sophomore Lexi Benson won 6-2 in the #2 doubles match to break the tie and put Hastings up 1-0 heading to singles.
With Cetak and Harveson getting the forfeit wins at #5 and #6 singles, Hastings needed just one singles win to clinch the match. Willcoxon would deliver for the Broncos, winning 6-3, 6-0 to guarantee the victory.
Sterling won at #1 singles, then junior Josline Carter pulled out a 7-5 first set win at #2 singles before running away the second set, 6-3. Benson dominated at #4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0, making the final 6-1.
Up next, Hastings will play Colorado Mesa in Kearney, NE on Friday, Feb. 13 at 1pm.
