Women's Tennis Debuts 2025 Fall Season at GPAC Invite
(Lincoln, NE) – The Bronco women’s tennis team traveled to Lincoln to take part in the annual Fall GPAC Invite on Friday and Saturday.
(Lincoln, NE) – The Bronco women's tennis team traveled to Lincoln to take part in the annual Fall GPAC Invite on Friday and Saturday.
In the flight one singles section, junior Victoria Harris came back after dropping the first set to Morningside in the round of 16, winning the second set 6-4, then pulling out the third set tiebreak, 10-8. Harris lost 6-1, 6-1 to Doane in the quarterfinals. Junior Josline Carter took the opening set, 6-4, in her round of 16 match against Concordia, but lost the second set before dropping the third set tiebreak, 10-3. She worked her way to the consolation final with an 8-0 win over Doane, before losing 8-1 to Morningside.
In the flight two singles section, senior Paige Willcoxon forced a third set against Doane in the round of 16 after winning the second set, 6-4, but lost in the third set tiebreak, 10-4. Sophomore Cara Ansbach fell short in a first tiebreak, 7-4, then lost 6-4 in the second set to Doane. Willcoxon and Ansbach lost 8-1 in their consolation semifinal matches.
In the flight three singles section, sophomore Lexi Benson advanced to the quarterfinals with a round of 16 bye. She won the first set over Morningside in the quarterfinal, before losing the second set and falling 10-2 in the third set tiebreak. Junior Abby Harveson lost in the round of 16 to Morningside, 6-1, 6-1. She reached the consolation final with an 8-6 win over Concordia, then lost 8-5 to Concordia
In the flight four singles section, sophomore Kayleigh Cetak lost her first match in the round of 16 to Concordia, 6-3, 6-0, then lost 8-0 to Morningside in the consolation semifinals. In the flight five singles section that was played as an eight-game pro-set, sophomore Mia Short lost her round of 16 match to Morningside, 8-3, and 8-2 to Mount Marty in the consolation quarterfinals.
In the flight one doubles section, Benson and Ansbach won their round of 16 match in a tiebreak, 7-5 over Northwestern, before falling 6-0 in their quarterfinal match to Doane. Carter and Harris lost 6-2 in the round of 16 to Morningside, then won 6-2 over Doane and 6-3 over Northwestern to advance to the consolation final, losing their final match 6-4 to Concordia.
In the flight two doubles section, Cetak and Harveson lost 6-2 to Morningside in the round of 16 and 6-2 to Northwestern in the consolation quarterfinals. Willcoxon and Short lost 6-4 to Morningside in the round of 16 and 6-4 to Concordia in the consolation quarterfinals.
The Broncos will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Nebraska Wesleyan at 4pm.
