Softball Swept by Mount Marty
Hastings, NE – It was a rough day on the diamond for the Hastings College softball team as the Lady Broncos were swept by Mount Marty 5-4 and 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Hastings, NE – It was a rough day on the diamond for the Hastings College softball team as the Lady Broncos were swept by Mount Marty 5-4 and 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Broncos were able to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Elana Gerhard blasted one through the wind for a two run home run.
But the lead didn't last long as the Lancers came right back four runs in the top of the fifth to make it 5-2.
Hastings began to chip away at the lead in the sixth as Taylor Stuhr picked up a RBI groundout to make it 5-3. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Katyn Kappler led the inning off with a solo home run (2) to make it a one run game. Hastings then managed to put runners on first and second but a strikeout would end the game.
Schelkopf led the way in game one going 2-for-4 while Gerhard led with two RBIs.
The bats would stay absolutely quite in game two as HC mustered just one hit in the shutout loss as that came from Gerhard as she went 1-for-3 in the loss.
Hastings falls to 12-16 (6-4) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Apr. 12 as Midland comes to town for a doubleheader with first pitch set for 4:00 pm out at the Smith Softball Complex.
