Hastings, NE – The Hastings College softball team had quite the up and down day losing game one 10-0 (5 innings) before hanging on for dear life in game two 9-8 against Doane on Saturday afternoon out at the Smith Softball Complex.
The Lady Broncos had to face off against one of the best pitchers in the Great Plains Athletic Conference in Camry Moore as Doane ran away with game one 10-0 in five innings.
Isabel Tanabe led the way at the plate in game one going 2-for-3 as HC finished with six hits but had nothing to show for it.
Game two was one huge inning of offense and then the Lady Bronco defense would have to hang on to pick up the split.
After Doane took a 4-1 lead with four runs in the top of the third, Hastings countered in a big way in the bottom of the third. Hastings was able to load the bases with no outs and then Lauren Schneider picked up a RBI when she walked. Two batters later, Lexie Mudloff picked up a RBI ground out to make it 4-3. Taylor Stuhr stepped up and blasted a three run home run to make it 6-4. The two out rally would continue as HC loaded the bases and then Macie Mays cleared the bases with a three RBI double to center to make it 9-4.
The Tigers battled back to make it 9-7 heading to the final inning and made things interesting with one run to make it 9-8. Olivia Gilbert still had two outs but did have a runner on second but she would get Hannah Baesler to ground out to Tanabe at short to end the game 9-8 and to give Hastings the much needed split.
Mays had a huge day at the plate going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Stuhr had the one big home run for her three RBIs. Tanabe again went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. The Lady Broncos also over came five errors in the win.
Hastings is now 8-12 (3-1) on the year and will be back in action Tuesday Mar. 28 as Midland comes to town with first pitch set for 4:00 pm out at the Smith Softball Complex.
