Softball Swept by Benedictine
North Newton, KS – The Hastings College softball team ran into a tough Benedictine squad losing game one 8-5 before dropping game two 8-0 on Saturday.

North Newton, KS – The Hastings College softball team ran into a tough Benedictine squad losing game one 8-5 before dropping game two 8-0 on Saturday.
The Ravens got off to a fast start jumping out to a 4-0 lead over the Lady Broncos but HC countered in the third as Isabel Tanabe started the inning with a single. Ryleigh Guyer moved her to second with a sac bunt and then Lauren Schneider walked.
Up stepped Sydney Schelkopf as picked up a RBI single but the throw home to try and cut down Tanabe eluded the catcher allowing both Schneider and Schelkopf to score to make it 4-3.
The Ravens came right back in the bottom of the third with four more runs to open up an 8-3 lead.
Hastings would manufacture two runs in the fourth as Taylor Stuhr scored on a ground out and then Guyer later scored on Macie Mays RBI sac fly to make it 8-5.
Unfortunately for Hastings, they would get just one more base runner the rest of the way dropping game one 8-5.
Tanabe went a perfect 3-for-3 in the loss while Schelkopf went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.
Game two was all Ravens as Hastings came away with just four hits with two of them coming from Tanabe in the 8-0 loss in five innings.
Hastings falls to 5-11 on the year and will be back in action Saturday Mar. 18 hitting the road to take on Peru State with first pitch set for 1:00 pm in Peru, NE.
