Softball Settles for Split on Day 1 at Red Dirt Classic
Oklahoma City, OK – The Hastings College softball team picked up a split on Friday first losing 1-0 to Mid-America Christian 1-0 (8 innings) before defeating Langston 17-1 in the night cap as part of the Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic.

Oklahoma City, OK – The Hastings College softball team picked up a split on Friday first losing 1-0 to Mid-America Christian 1-0 (8 innings) before defeating Langston 17-1 in the night cap as part of the Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic.
Kyleight Boever pitched one of the best games of her life but it was the offense that couldn't scrap across a run in the 1-0 defeat to the Evangels.
Boever went out and got her defense involved as she worked five three up three down innings while striking out just five. She gave up no hits through seven innings of work and walked just three. But the game remained 0-0 and headed to extra innings where the international rule comes in to play. MACU took advantage getting the runner to third and then pinch hitter Emylee Campbell hit a RBI single down the right field line to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the eighth, The Lady Broncos looked to be in perfect position to win having runners on second and third with no outs but when Macy Mays flied out to right, Lauren Schneider was thrown out at the plate to keep it 1-0. Elana Gerhard then struck out as Hastings lost 1-0 in just heartbreaking fashion.
Sydney Schelkopf led the way at the plate going 2-for-4. Boever's final line was 8.0 innings giving up just one run on one hit while striking out five.
Hastings didn't have any problems at the plate in game two against Langston defeating the Lions 17-1 in five innings.
HC got things going right away as Rayleigh Guyer started the game with a single up the middle. Sydney Schelkopf followed up with a single of her own. Two batters later Elana Gerhard singled to right-center to plate Guyer. Then Schelkopf scored on Lexie Mudloff's sac fly to make it 2-0.
Hastings picked up three more runs in the second as Guyer, Schelkopf and Macie Mays all picked up RBIs to push the lead to 5-1 through two innings.
Then, the Lady Broncos really poured it on in the third rattling off 10 runs as Nicole Halsey, Guyer, Schelkopf, Mudloff, Kappler all picked up RBIs in the third. Halsey ended up with four RBIs in the inning including a bases clearing double down the left field line that pushed the lead to 15-1. Hastings added two more to run away with the 17-1 victory over Langston.
Guyer and Schelkopf each went 4-for-5 and combined for five RBIs in the win. Halsey went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Kourtney Stewart went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs scored.
Sophia Havercamp pitched a complete game 5.0 innings giving up one run on four hits while striking out three.
Hastings improves to 4-8 on the year and will be back in action Saturday Mar. 4 taking on Science and Arts (Okla.) at 2:00 pm and then will face off against Bethel (Kan.) at 7:00 pm to finish up the Red Dirt Classic.
