Hall's 26 Points Not Enough in 78-72 Loss at Midland

Midland took a 6-2 lead a couple minutes in, but Hastings answered with a 10-2 run, beginning with a jumper from senior DaRon Hall and a three-pointer each by sophomores Micah Hinrichs and Maverick Binder to go up 10-8. The Warriors later pulled ahead 16-14, then Hall and Hinrichs each scored from behind the arc to take a 20-16 lead with 11:34 left in the first half.
Tied at 23 with 8:30 remaining in the half, Midland hit a three and scored down low to take a five-point lead. Down nine with 2:19 left in the half, junior Donovan Parker and Hall hit jumpers to bring the Broncos to within five at 34-29 at the half. Midland had a 20-10 rebounding advantage in the first half, but Hastings stayed in the game by forcing seven turnovers. Hall and Hinrichs each had nine points in the opening half.
Midland managed to push the lead to nine just over three minutes into the second half, but then Binder drilled a three and after a Warrior turnover, Simon converted a three-point play to cut the lead to three at 47-44 with 14:24 left. Down five at the 12-minute mark, Midland went on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 61-49 lead.
Simon got another and-one after a Hastings timeout, getting the deficit back to single digits at nine. A jumper by Hall was followed by a Midland turnover and layup from senior Christian Pujals. Hall scored again shortly after to trail only by three, 61-58, with 7:20 remaining. The Warriors regained momentum with a 6-0 run, which was followed by four quick points from Pujals, as Hastings trailed 67-62 with 4:26 to go.
Midland got a layup on their next possession and after an empty Bronco possession, they hit a three to take a 10-point lead with 2:32 remaining. Hall cut the lead to nine at the line with 1:33 left and he stole the ball from Midland on the next possession, finding junior Ben Boudreau for a three, now trailing by six.
Down nine with 49 seconds left, Hall got to the rim for two. Boudreau's quick steal turned into an and-one for Hall, who converted at the line, to make it 76-72 with 38 seconds remaining. The Warriors were fouled and made one of two at the line, and after a missed three by Boudreau, Midland was able to go to the line and ice the game, 78-72.
Midland had a 36-23 advantage on the glass and shot 54 percent from the field, including 48 percent from three. Hastings shot 44 percent overall and shot 94 percent from the foul line (16-17). Hastings forced 17 turnovers, outscoring the Warriors 18-8 in points off turnovers. Hall finished with a game-high 26 points, along with four assists. Binder had 14 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Hinrichs chipped in with 11 points and three steals.
