Schmutte stepping down as Athletic Director
(Hastings, Neb.) – Effective June 30, 2015, Hastings College Athletic Director Jerry Schmutte will be stepping down from his current position.
"We regret losing the leadership and extensive administrative experience Jerry brought to the Hastings College Athletic Department," said Don Jackson '70, President of Hastings College. "As a successful coach and respected professional, he brought fresh eyes to the department."
Since his arrival at Hastings College in 2012, Schmutte recruited and hired new head coaches. Additionally, he oversaw key internal changes to the Hastings College Athletic Department including the addition of a full-time strength coach – a first in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and a full-time sports information director.
"We will begin the process of searching for a new athletic director once everyone returns to campus for the start of the spring semester on January 28," said Dr. Gary Johnson, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
