Hastings Defeats Dordt 30-21
Sioux Center, IA - The Hastings College football team got back in the win column defeating Dordt 30-21 on Saturday afternoon.
With the Broncos sitting on a 27-21 lead in the fourth quarter, the Bronco defense was able to force a three-and-out getting the ball back to the offense needing one more score to put the game away.
Jason Gaines (SO/Papillion, NE) and the offense would go right to work as Gaines would hit Trevor Bohn (SR/Bennington, NE) for 24-yards down to the Dordt 33-yard line on a big 2nd-and-12.
Two plays later Jake Fowler (SO/Hastings, NE) would break free for a 22-yard run down to the Defender 7-yard line but the Broncos would settle for a Nick Giaffoglione (SO/Omaha, NE) 20-yard field goal to make it 30-21 with 8:06 remaining.
Dordt would begin to move the ball with some consistency on its next drive before the Bronco defense would come up with a huge sack by Casey Molifua (SR/Lincoln, NE) setting up 2nd-and-18 from mid-field.
Dordt would be unable to pick up another first down turning the ball over on downs and all but sealing the deal for the Broncos.
Hastings finished the game with 369-yards of offense while Dordt finished the day with 367-yards.
Fowler had 107 yards on 20 carries.
Gaines was 19-for-35 for 218 yards and three touchdowns. Jacob Reynoso (FR/Bennington, NE), Austin Curlee (JR/Round Rock, TX) and Michael Schumacher (SR/Ainsworth, NE) each had a touchdown catch.
Joe Taulaki (SR/Riverside, CA) led the Bronco defense with 6.5 tackles while Kelly McBride (SO/Austin, TX) added an interception.
The Broncos were out gained on the ground 319 to 151 but out yarded the Defenders through the air 218 to 48.
Hastings is now 5-4 (4-4) on the season and will be back in action Saturday Nov. 15 as Nebraska Wesleyan comes to town for the season finale with kick-off set for 1:00 p.m. at Lloyd Wilson Field.
