Yankton, SD – The Hastings College men's soccer team got back in the win column with a 2-0 victory over Mount Marty on Sunday afternoon.
Throughout much of this game, a lot of possession in the middle of the pitch for both sides but very little offense was generated as only nine total shots were taken in the contest.
The Broncos did break through in the 21st minute when Lewis Bowes sent a nice cross into the box where Ayo Mackinde chested the ball to his feet and then five holed the keeper for the 1-0 lead.
That lead carried over into the second half as things got a bit interesting as the Lancers were called for offsides. It appeared the Broncos tried a quick kick back to Jack Howard and he picked up the ball in the box. This led to an indirect free kick from about 17 yards out as Diego Romero hit the shot but it was deflected wide.
Mount Marty would take the corner kick but it would turn into a counter attack for the Broncos as Heitor Moreira broke loose down the left side as he would beat the keeper one-on-one and then send a pass over to Lewis Albert as he slipped his shot into the open net for the 2-0 lead.
The Broncos would hold on for the 2-0 victory to earn its 24th straight win over the Lancers.
Hastings finished with five total shots while Mount Marty finished with four according to the stats but that may change after a second look.
Jack Howard finished with three saves to earn the clean sheet.
Hastings is now 5-6-2 (4-2-1) on the year and will be back in action Wednesday Oct. 11 hitting the road to take on Doane with kickoff set for 5:00 pm in Crete, NE.
