Not One But Two 7-10 Splits by Engels That is Unprecedented; Broncos Finish 5th at MidStates
Wichita, KS – The Hastings College men’s and women’s bowling teams competed in the MidStates Collegiate Championship this past weekend where the men finished fifth and the women placed 19th. Wichita State won both the men’s and women’s overall pin count. The Bronco men also qualified for the bracket round.

Not only did the Bronco men bowl one of its best tournaments in school history, history was also made by Brandon Engels as he converted not one but two 7-10 splits. Now, if you don't know what kind of feat this is, professional bowlers only convert this feat .8 percent of the time so the odds of doing it twice in a tournament are roughly one in a million.
Hastings finished with a total pin count of 10470 where Wichita State finished with a pin count of 11250. The Broncos also defeated Mount Mercy by 135 pins.
Brady Kaufmann led the way by finishing 21st with a total pin count of 1283 for an average of 213.83. His best game was game one where he fired off a 242.
Anthony Hernandez finished 23rd with a total pin count of 1267 for an average of 211.16. His best game came in game six where he bowled a 247.
Winton Gassmann finished 32nd with a total pin count of 1244 for an average of 207.33. His best game came in game 4 with a 257. Carstin Olson also finished in the top 40 out of 303 bowlers with a total pin count of 1221 for an average of 203.5. His best game came in game two with a 255.
The men also qualified for the bracket round where the defeated Oklahoma Christian 3-1 and had Wichita State on the ropes but ended up falling 3-1.
On the women's side of things Marissa Ruiz led the way once again as she finished 44th with a total pin count of 1043 for an average of 173.83. Her best game came in game four with a 181.
Amanda Peterson finished 68th with a total pin count of 944 for an average of 157.33. Her best game came in game one with a 177.
The Broncos will be back in action Saturday Oct. 29 hitting the road to take part in the Jayhawk Challenge down in Topeka, KS.
