Hot Shooting Leads Men's Basketball Past Midland

After Midland scored on its first possession, the Broncos went to a whole new level as it started with a Danilo Matovic and one to start the game. Then Nolan Sughroue was left open on the win as he knocked down the three. Reggie Thomas then dished out one of his game high nine assists to Matovic as Hastings was up 8-2 early on.
The Broncos would not let up as Thomas drained a three to go up 11-3. Following a Warrior bucket, Tyrique McMurrin got in on the action with a layup and he came right back with a mid-range jumper to make it 15-5. The Broncos continued to attack the rim as Thomas and McMurrin connected on back-to-back layups as the Warriors had to call a timeout trailing 19-5 with 13:58 to go in the first half.
The Broncos continued to stay red hot from the floor as Grady Corrigan drained a three and then Matovic hit from down low again to make it 24-10. Matovic handed the ball off to Thomas as he let one fly from deep draining another three to go up 27-13. Quinn Johnson then buried a three of his own followed by a McMurrin three as Hastings was up 33-13 with 10:34 to go in the half.
At this point the Broncos were 16-for-18 from the floor and were able to build the lead to as many as 31 points before defeating the Warriors by 25.
The Broncos were led by McMurrin as he finished with 20 points as he was 9-for-12 from the floor and 2-for-4 from downtown. Matovic finished with 16 points, eight boards and six assists while Corrigan finished with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Thomas finished with 12 points, seven boards and nine assists.
Hastings finished the game shooting 62.7 percent (37-for-59) while Midland shot 46 percent (22-for-48). HC shot nearly 48 percent (11-for-23) from behind the arc while the Warriors shot 37.5 percent (6-for-16).
Hastings dominated the boards 31-to-19 and also finished the game with 24 assists compared to 14 for MU.
The Broncos are now 16-7 (11-4) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Feb. 10 hitting the road to take on NAIA No. 19 Morningside with tipoff set for 3:45 pm out in Sioux City, IA. Hastings moves into a four way tie for first in the GPAC with Concordia, Northwestern and Morningside.
