Northwestern Tops Broncos in Day 1 Doubleheader
(Orange City, IA) – The Hastings Broncos lost 4-1 in game one and 14-4 in game two at the Northwestern College Red Raiders on Friday to start the four-game series.

(Orange City, IA) – The Hastings Broncos lost 4-1 in game one and 14-4 in game two at the Northwestern College Red Raiders on Friday to start the four-game series.
In game one, no scoring occurred until the fifth inning, as there were only three hits during that period by both teams combined.
During the bottom of the fifth, the Red Raiders began with a single and a walk. An error scored the first run and they added three more on a pair of singles to take a 4-0 lead.
Sophomore Peighton Vargas doubled to start the sixth. He moved to third on a flyout and sophomore Cody Haynes drove him in on an RBI-groundout, making it 4-1 after six. Hastings got a hit in the seventh with two outs from junior Evan Morrison, but a popout ended the game.
Vargas went 2-3 at the plate with a double. Senior Aleczander Hardy pitched five innings, allowing four runs on four hits, striking out five. Senior Spencer Searcey pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen with a strikeout.
In game two, a leadoff double by Northwestern came around to score a batter later on an RBI-single to take a 1-0 lead after one.
Senior Jace Valdez singled and Morrison walked to put runners on first and second. Hastings got on the board on a one-out RBI-double from junior Samuele Bruno. With two outs, senior Tristan Martinez put Hastings ahead 3-1 on a base hit to left.
The Red Raiders took the momentum in the fourth with an eight-run inning on four hits, four walks, and an error to take a 9-3 lead. Bruno and Vargas started the fifth with singles, then T. Martinez brought home Bruno on an RBI-single to cut the lead to five.
Northwestern ended the game via run rule by scoring three runs in the seventh, winning 14-4.
T. Martinez went 3-4 with three RBIs, while Bruno was 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Tyler Rojas also had a multi-hit game, going 2-3.
