Baseball Defeats Southwestern Christian, 8-3

Hastings started fast with the first four batters reaching safely. Sophomore Tyler Rojas singled and he scored on an RBI-double by junior Evan Morrison. Junior Samuele Bruno was hit by a pitch and sophomore Peighton Vargas reached on an error to load the bases. Morrison came home from third on a fielder's choice hit by junior Dylan Wimbs. A sac fly from senior Tristan Martinez brought in Bruno for Hastings' final run of the inning, making it 3-0.
Southwestern Christian scored three runs in the bottom half of the first, all unearned coming with two outs, tying the game at three.
In the third inning, Morrison tripled and after junior Nick Deterding was hit by a pitch, Vargas drove in Morrison on a single to right. Martinez scored Deterding on a groundout and after two consecutive walks, senior Jace Valdez hit a two-run RBI single to right, as Hastings went up 6-3.
After the first inning, senior Aleczander Hardy would pitch four scoreless innings, allowing eight total hits and striking out three. Junior Carmen Severino pitched the final four innings and only gave up one hit, while striking out five to earn the save.
Hastings added a run in the ninth, as Morrison singled and took second on a wild pitch, then came home on an RBI-single from Vargas.
Morrison was 3-4 on the day with a walk, scoring three runs and driving in a run, and finishing a home run shy of the cycle. Vargas finished 2-5 with two RBIs and a run scored and Valdez was 2-4 with two RBIs.
Up next, Hastings will play a single game at Mid-America Christian tomorrow at 1pm.
