Haynes' Walk-off Completes 6-Run Comeback Win

Central Christian came out strong, scoring five runs on five hits in the first inning, including a two-run double and two-run triple. They then tacked on a run in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Senior Jace Valdez led off the bottom of the third with a base-hit, then sophomore Tyler Rojas and junior Evan Morrison walked to load the bases. Junior Samuele Bruno brought in the first run with a hard-hit single and two batters later, Rojas scored on a sac fly from senior Tristan Martinez to make it a 6-2 game.
Hastings pinch hit for many of the batters in the sixth inning and erupted for six runs in the inning. Senior Ben Richter hustled for a double and after a Morrison walk, a single by junior Nick Deterding brought in Richter.
Hits by junior Joshren Mace Magnaye and senior Tristan Martinez scored the next two runs, then after a walk, a Tiger throwing error batted by senior Chris Faherty scored two runs and gave the Broncos a 7-6 lead. They got their final run of the inning on a wild pitch, as junior Carter Guiton came home to go up 8-6.
The Tigers hit a double with two outs in the seventh and turned it into a run in the next at-bat on an RBI-single, making it 8-7. In the eighth, Central Christian walked to start the inning and tied the game on an RBI-double. They took a 9-8 lead on a Bronco throwing error.
Martinez began the bottom of the eight with a base-hit to left and scored on a sac bunt by Guiton, as the throw from the first baseman to third bounced away and allowed Martinez to score and tie the game at nine.
In the ninth, senior Spencer Searcey singled and with one out, Mace Magnaye walked. With runners on second and third and two out, Guiton walked. Haynes came up and on the second pitch of the at-bat, he lined a single in between short and third to walk it off, 10-9.
Martinez led Hastings offensively, going 2-4 with two RBIs. Morrison reached base three times via walk and Mace Magnaye was 1-1 with two walks and an RBI. Junior pitcher Ryder Derouin picked up the win, pitching a scoreless top of the ninth with two strikeouts.
Up next, Hastings will host Dakota Wesleyan for a double-header on Friday, Mar. 20 at 4 and 6:30pm.
