Volleyball Pummels Mount Marty in Straight Sets
Hastings- It took little time for the Hastings College volleyball team to make work of the Mount Marty (S.D.) Lancers, winning in straight sets (25-9, 25-9, 25-19) on Saturday at Lynn Farrell Arena.
With a 2-2 tie in set one, the Broncos (11-0,3-0 GPAC) went on a 5-0 run aided by kills by Casey Krolikowski (JR/Cairo, NE), Lucy Skoch (FR/Hastings, NE), and three Lancers attack errors. Another 12-1 run later in the set gave the Broncos a 22-5 lead. Matti Dabovich (JR/Pueblo West, CO) ended the set with a kill.
In set two, the Broncos used a 10-0 run early to put themselves ahead of the Lancers (6-5,0-3 GPAC) 18-5. With a 21-7 lead over the Lancers, Hastings used kills by Elise Baumann (FR/Omaha, NE), Danielle Bruha (FR/Ord, NE), and another slew of Lancers attack errors to take set two 25-8.
A 6-0 run in set three gave the Broncos another manageable 13-5 lead. Late in the set, Hastings led 23-14, but Mount Marty rattled off a 5-1 run of their own before Skoch got a kill to end the set and the match.
The Broncos were led by Cassidy Ostrand (SO/Central City, NE), Dabovich, Skoch, and Krolikowski who all tallied at least six kills. Katie Placke (SR/Grand Island, NE) and Clare Hamburger (JR/Hastings, NE) tallied 16 and 11 assists, respectively. Mount Marty also committed 25 errors in the match compared to 14 by Hastings.
The Broncos play again when they travel to Seward on Wednesday to take on the Concordia Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
