Women's Track and Field Places Ninth at GPAC
(Hastings, NE) - The women’s track and field team hosted the GPAC Outdoor Championship on Friday and Saturday at the Jack Osborne Track Complex. Hastings finished ninth out of 12 teams with 29 points, 11 points behind eighth place Mount Marty.

Hastings finished ninth out of 12 teams with 29 points, 11 points behind eighth place Mount Marty. The top eight in individual events and top three in relay events were awarded all-conference honors.
In the 400m hurdles, senior Jaida Rowe was the runner-up with an A-Standard time of 1:01.43, while freshman Ava Reese came in seventh at 1:09.82. Rowe also took third in the 100m hurdle finals, with a time of 14.39 and Reese placed seventh with a time of 15.67.
Competing in the 5000m race walk, junior Ava Brackhan won the event with a time of 31:08.00 and freshman Destini Johnson came in right behind her at 32:27.04 to take second.
In the heptathlon, freshman Lucy Carey placed fourth overall with 4127 points by taking second in the 800m (2:29.94) and third in the 100m hurdles (15.41). Senior Zailee Poulson, with 3847 points, placed ninth, led by placing third in the high jump (1.50m).
In the triple jump, junior Trinity Doublin took 10th place with a leap of 10.35m. In the long jump, freshman Kamerin Turner placed 19th with 4.81m. In the javelin throw, freshman Ellie Lloyd took 11th with a throw of 34.46m.
In the hammer throw, junior Kylee Hasselmann placed ninth with 47.23m. In the 10000m, Brackhan took 16th place with a time of 46:09.69. Senior Cynthia Chaparro-Belloc took 15th in the 1500m run with a time of 5:09.93.
Competing in the high jump, Poulson placed 16th with a top jump of 1.46m and junior Melissa Hines was 20th, also at 1.46m.
In the 800m sophomore Whitney Cure placed 17th with a time of 2:29.90. Also placing in the event was senior Shania Santos, who took 20th (2:32.66), and sophomore Grace Dow took 22nd (2:36.95).
In the 4x800m relay, senior Cecilia Velarde, Cure, Dow, Chaparro-Belloc placed sixth with a time of 10:05.57. In the 4x100m relay Turner, Reese, Carey, and Velarde placed eighth with a time of 50.52. The 4x400m relay team of Velarde, Rowe, Tuner, and Carey took seventh with a time of 4:07.60.
Next, the Broncos will go to the Concordia Twilight Last Chance in Seward, NE on May 9th at 2pm, then are also scheduled to compete on Saturday, May 10 at the Loper Last Chance meet in Kearney, NE.
