Softball Wins 11-0 in Game 2 in Split Versus Waldorf

(Hastings, NE) – Facing Waldorf on Saturday the Hastings softball team dropped game one, 13-4, then regrouped to win 11-0 in game two.
The Broncos started game one with three straight singles, with the final one by senior Lexie Mudloff loading the bases. Senior Kaylee Pinneo was hit by a pitch, scoring the first run, then a walk to senior Ana Medeiros put Hastings up 2-0.
After Pinneo reached first on an error to lead off the third, Medeiros walked. Senior Sam Skinner moved the two runners up with a sac bunt and Pinneo scored on a fielder's choice hit by freshman Jenna McClain to take a 3-0 lead.
Waldorf scored nine runs on eight hits in the top of the fourth. With one out, the next nine batters reached safely. Waldorf scored their runs on four singles, one double, one triple, and a fielder's choice, going up 9-3.
The Warriors got two more runs in the fifth to go up eight, but Hastings was able to keep it from being a run-rule final, as Medeiros powered a home run through the powerful wind, going over the wall in right to make it 11-4. Two more runs by Waldorf in the seventh made for a 13-4 final.
In game two after a scoreless top of the first, Kappler reached on an error. She moved to second on a bunt and third on a flyout. A high pop-up hit by senior Lauren Lee was dropped and senior Katyn Kappler scored on the play to take a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, Hastings erupted for 10 runs on four hits, six walks, and two errors to take an 11-0 lead. Freshman Jenna McClain, senior Graecy Graf, sophomore Sofia Carroll, and Lee each had RBI-walks in the inning. Lee, Pinneo, and Skinner recorded RBI-singles and senior Lexie Mudloff had a two-run RBI-double, as Hastings won it 11-0.
Sophomore Dani Sitts pitched five scoreless innings, allowing only five hits and recording six strikeouts in the shutout. Kappler and Carroll scored five of the Bronco runs and walked three times.
Up next, Hastings will host Midland in a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 4 at 1 and 3pm.
