Softball Completes Sweep Over York in First Home Games

York singled off of freshman pitcher Jazlyn Moreno's glove, which turned out to be their only hit of the game. The Panthers advanced the runner to third on a sac bunt and scored on a groundout to take an early 1-0 lead.
Two of the first three Broncos reached and junior Kaylee Pinneo drove in senior Katyn Kappler on an RBI-double and after senior Lexie Mudloff scored on a wild pitch, fellow senior Lauren Lee doubled to center to bring home sophomore Sofia Carroll, making it a 3-1 lead.
With two outs in the second inning, Kappler walked and stole second, scoring on an RBI-single by Carroll. Mudloff singled and went first to third on a wild pitch and throwing error, as Carroll scored from third. Pinneo doubled in Mudloff to go up 6-1.
Senior Ana Medeiros powered a home run to deep left through the strong wind in the third inning. An inning later, Lee drove in Mudloff on an unearned run to take a 7-1 lead. Carroll walked the game off in the fifth inning on a two-on, two-out single to score senior Sam Skinner for the 9-1 victory.
Carroll was 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Pinneo was 2-2 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs, walking once and scoring a run. Mudloff was 2-3 and scored three runs. Lee also recorded two hits, going 2-3 with two RBIs. Moreno pitched five innings, allowing just the one hit and one unearned run, striking out one.
In game two, York scored the first run of the game in the fourth, but Hastings responded with two runs in the bottom half of that inning, as Mudloff led off with a single. Pinneo reached on an error and Skinner drove a double to left to score Mudloff. Pinneo later scored on a ground ball by senior Kyla Humphreys, making it 2-1.
York hit a one-out double in the fifth, but Hastings got a key double-play on a lineout to halt the Panther momentum. Sophomore Kassidy Beavers faced the minimum in the final two innings, securing the 2-1 win.
Skinner led the way offensively, going 2-3 with an RBI-double. Beavers pitched all seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits, to earn the win.
Up next, Hastings will play a double-header at Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday, Mar. 21 at 2 and 4pm.
