Softball Wins First, Loses Second in Bethel Double-Header
(North Newton, KS) – Hastings jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one in what turned out to be a 6-4 win, then lost 10-2 in game two.

(North Newton, KS) – Hastings jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one in what turned out to be a 6-4 win, then lost 10-2 in game two.
In game one, senior Lexie Mudloff and freshman Jenna McClain reached to begin the second inning and Mudloff scored on a single by sophomore Graecy Graf. Senior Katyn Kappler followed her up with a two-run RBI double to put Hastings up 3-0.
Much like the third inning, the first two Broncos reached in the fourth. With one out Hastings loaded the bases with a walk by junior Kaylee Pinneo. Senior Ana Medeiros cleared the bases with a three-run RBI double to deep center, giving them a 6-0 lead.
Bethel would get two runs back in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run home run and got two more runs in the sixth, but Hastings held on for the 6-4 win.
Kappler went 4-5 in game one with two RBIs and a run scored. Medeiros was 2-4 with three RBIs, sophomore Sofia Carroll finished 2-3 with a walk and a run scored, and Graf was 2-3 with a walk, a run, and an RBI. Senior Kiera Brack pitched all seven innings, allowing four runs (only three earned) on nine hits, and striking out three.
In game two, Kappler opened the game with a single and after moving to second on a sac bunt by Carroll, she scored on a two-out RBI double by Medeiros to go up 1-0.
Bethel scored six runs in the third inning, all being scored following the second out being recorded. Hastings got a run back in the top half of the fourth, as Mudloff turned a leadoff single from senior Lauren Lee into a run on an RBI double to left-center field.
The Threshers put the game out of reach with four more runs in their half of the fourth, then retired the Broncos in order in the fifth to close out the game, 10-2.
Kappler was 1-3 with a run scored and Lee was 1-2 with a run scored. Medeiros and Mudloff were each 1-2 with an RBI.
