Men's Wrestling Goes 2-1 at Second GPAC Duals
(Crete, NE) – In the second GPAC Duals of the year, Hastings won 32-18 over both Morningside and Waldorf in their first two duals, then lost their final dual 40-12 to Dakota Wesleyan.

Junior Creel Weber began the Morningside dual with a 20-2 tech fall win at 125 and junior Justin Rodriguez followed him up with a pin at 133. Morningside won by decision at 141 and by default at 149, making it a 11-9 Hastings lead.
At 157, sophomore Jordan Tobias got a pin at the 4:52 mark, and after the Mustangs won by tech fall at 165, sophomore Esteban Sedano needed just over a minute to earn a pin at 174. Morningside won the 184 bout, as Hastings held a 23-18 lead going to the final two matches.
Sophomore Justyce Hostetler picked up a 13-7 decision win at 197 and sophomore Koen Mattern got a pin at 285 to seal the 32-18 win.
Against Waldorf, the Warriors won at 125 by fall, but Rodriguez got a pin at 133 and senior Dalton Michael earned a 5-3 decision win at 141 to go up 9-6. Waldorf won by forfeit at 149, then Hastings won the next four bouts and five of the last six. At 157, Tobias got a pin at the 2:35 mark, then junior Nicholas Freeland pulled out a 13-6 decision at 165 to take an 18-12 lead.
Sedano continued the momentum with a 21-6 tech fall at 174 and sophomore Conall Liburdi picked up a 16-11 decision victory at 184 to go up 26-18. Waldorf won by forfeit at 197 and Mattern also won by forfeit at 285 to lock up the 32-18 win.
In their final dual of the day against Dakota Wesleyan, Weber opened with a pin victory at 125. Dakota Wesleyan won at 133 in a close 8-7 decision, then pinned Hastings at 141 and 149. Hastings lost a 6-4 decision at 157 and lost by tech fall at 165 to fall behind 23-6.
The Tigers got a pin at 174 and a tech fall at 184 to go up 34-6. Hostetler won by forfeit at 197 and Waldorf took 285 by forfeit to make the final 40-12.
Up next, Hastings will compete at the GPAC Championships in Orange City, IA on Saturday, Feb. 20-21, beginning at 2pm on the 20th.
