Hostetler Earns First Place Win at Hastings Open

At 197, sophomore Justyce Hostetler picked up a 14-6 major decision over Midland in the quarterfinals, then needed just 35 seconds to pin Tre Daro of Nebraska-Kearney to advance to the final. In the final against Samuel Watkins of Nebraska-Kearney, Hostetler trailed 3-0, then got a reversal and pinned him at the 1:54 mark to take the title.
At 133, junior Justin Rodriguez picked up a win in his first match over Fort Hays Tech Northwest by a 12-8 decision, getting an escape and takedown in the third period to break the tie and advance to the semifinals. He lost his next match to Drew Garfield in an 8-0 major decision and dropped his first consolation match in a close 7-5 decision to Valiant Prep.
Also at 133, junior Logan Hackman lost to Augustana and Valiant Prep in his first two matches, but took seventh with a 16-0 tech fall victory over Central Christian College.
Junior Creel Weber defeated Central Christian College at 125 with a 21-3 tech fall before getting pinned by Concordia in his second match. He pinned Adonis Lattimore of Nebraska-Kearney at the 4:13 mark in his first consolation match, then lost by tech fall to Valiant Prep in the consolation quarterfinals.
Senior Dalton Michael dropped his opening match by fall to Valiant Prep at 141, then rebounded in the consolation bracket with a second period pin over Andre Honas of Fort Hays State. He moved onto the consolation semifinals with a pin 71 seconds into his match against Hunter Anderson. In his next match, he lost to Nebraska-Kearney by tech fall.
At 149, sophomore Jordan Tobias got pinned in his first bout to Chadron State, then pinned Southeast CC at the 2:52 mark in his first consolation match. He lost his second consolation match to Nebraska Kearney by fall to end his day.
Sophomore Koen Mattern took down Fort Hays State by fall in his first match at 285 before losing to #15 Gabe Kant of Concordia by an 8-2 decision and losing his first consolation to Caleb Kurtti of Augustana.
At 157, junior Nicholas Freeland won by a 16-0 tech fall against Fort Hays Tech Northwestern before getting pinned by Augustana in his second match. He lost his first consolation match in a 9-4 decision against Augustana.
Senior Israel Manriquez won a close 1-0 decision over Southeast Community College at 165 by getting an escape in the third period. He lost his second match to Augustana in an 8-2 decision, then lost to Augustana by tech fall in his lone consolation match.
Up next, Hastings will host Doane in a dual on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 3pm in Lynn Farrell Arena.
