Women's Wrestling Competed at the North Central College Women's Open
Naperville, IL – The Hastings College women’s wrestling team competed in the North Central College Open on Sunday and brought home two consolation titles.
Naperville, IL – The Hastings College women's wrestling team competed in the North Central College Open on Sunday and brought home two consolation titles.
Larissa Kaz at 123 began her day with a pin over Taylor Hood who was wrestling unattached before she lost her next match 20-16 to Autumn LoRusso of Adrian College but then bounced back in a big way. Kaz began her run against Kivah Caballero of University of Providence by defeating her via tech fall 10-0. Kaz then faced off against Sandie Pfeil of Augustana defeating her via tech fall 12-1. Then she defeated Trinity Pendergrass of Quincy via another 12-1 tech fall to move into the consolation championship. There she pinned Aniyah Dinwiddie of Iowa Central at the 2:04 mark to claim the consolation title.
At 143 Reagen Gallaway also lost her first match of the tournament and moved into the consolation bracket as well where she also made a big move. Gallaway started the consolation bracket by defdeating Taylor Bauden of Wisconsin-Stevens Point via a 10-0 tech fall. Then she defeated Leilani Martinez who was wrestling unattached via a 12-0 tech fall. Up next for Gallaway was Kammie Schanz of Iowa Central where she made quick work of her by pinning her just :34 into the match. She then moved into the consolation championship where she faced off against Mckenzie Cook of Eureka by pinning her just :32 into the match for the consolation title.
Tabitha Wood started her day well first by defeating Olivia Cotton of Cornell by pinning her at the 2:04 mark of the match. Then she defeated Florida Nikokusenga of Quincy via a 10-0 tech fall to move into the quarterfinals. But she would lose her next two matches to finish the tournament 2-2.
Hastings will take the rest of the year off and will be back in action Sunday Jan. 7 as the Lady Broncos will host the Bronco Women's Open in Hastings, NE.
