Women's Wrestling Brings Home Three Silver Medals From Doane
Crete, NE – The Hastings College women’s wrestling team competed at the Conner/Oppenheim Open hosted by Doane University and brought home three second place finishes this past weekend.
Crete, NE – The Hastings College women's wrestling team competed at the Conner/Oppenheim Open hosted by Doane University and brought home three second place finishes this past weekend.
At 116 Adacelli Salaiz-Noriega began her day with a pin over Grand View's Mayangelie Colon at the 5:27 mark before losing in the quarters to move to the consolation bracket. Noriega started consolation side of things by pinnings Lorelei Wydra of Doane at the 1:24 mark to keep her tournament run alive. She then advanced past Grand View's Brynn Miller by a 10-4 decision moving into the consolation semis where she picked up a 9-4 win over Markayla Lottie of Avila to move into the third place match. There she ended up forfeiting to bring home fourth place.
At 123 At 123 Larissa Kaz began her day pin a pin over McKenna Kisela of Southeast CC at the 1:34 mark. She then made quick work of Celeste Tellez of York by pinning her just :20 into the match and then picked up a teck fall 11-0 victory over Carolina Rios of Texas Wesleyan to move into the title match where she would lose but would still bring home the silver medal
Montana Strozzi would go 3-2 on the day picking up a 10-0 tech fall to begin her day and followed that up by pinning Rachel Dismuke of Carl Albert before falling to the consolation in the quarterfinals. She then picked up a win over Cadence Smaus of Southeast CC before being ousted in the next round.
At 136 Kaydince Turner started her day with a 10-0 tech fall victory over Shaylee Van Den Berg of Ellsworth. Turner came back with a pin of Andrea Jones of Doane at the 3:40 mark and then moved into the semifinals with another 10-0 tech fall win this time over Jalynn Patino of Texas Wesleyan. But she would lose a hard fought match 12-8 to eventual champion Malia Kehne of Carl Abert. Turner then defeated Abbie Jones of Baker via pin at the 2:01 mark of the consolation semifinals before taking fourth after a close 5-3 defeat in the third place match up.
At 143 Tabitha Wood and Reagen Gallaway each had a great tournament. Gallaway began her day with a 10-0 tech fall win over Trinity Diamond who was wrestling unattached. Then she picked up another 10-0 tech fall win over Celeste Cubillo of Iowa Western to move into the semifinals. There she faced Alisson King where she dominated via a 12-0 tech fall to move into the championship match. Gallaway would bring home the silver after falling to Mea Mohler of Texas Wesleyan in the title match.
Wood began her day with a pin over Alondra Guzman-Turango of Friends at the 2:56 mark and backed that up with a 5-2 decision over Ariana Mercado of Saint Mary to move into the semifinals. There she would lose to Mohler to drop into the consolation bracket. She then faced No. 4 Isabelle Hawley of William Penn and defeated her via pin at the 5:19 mark and would end up taking fourth overall.
At 155 Victoria Guinard got things started with an 11-1 tech fall win over No. 17 Bailee Hawks of Friends. She backed that up with a 10-0 tech fall over Emma Stephenson of Ellsworth. She then pinned Markael Zeleny of Morningside at the :58 mark to move into the semifinals. There she picked up a 12-0 tech fall victory over No. 20 Niah Smith of Waldorf. She ended up losing to Kylie Hulse of Carl Albert in the championship match to bring home the silver.
Lisa Hoeflich would go 2-2 at 155 picking up wins over Rio Johnson of Upper Iowa and pinned Kylee Eastwood as many would consider to be the fastest pin in history just :01 into the match.
Taylor Rickley would go 2-2 on her day at 170
At 191 Marissa Patterson got things going by pinning Tiffany White of Indian Hills and then pinned Lamia Benn of Doane at the 1:43 mark to move into the semifinals. She would lose there and moved to the consolation bracket where she picked up a tough 3-2 win over Jannell Avila of Baker before falling in the third place match to place fourth.
Hastings will now turn its attention to the NCC Women's Open coming up Sunday Oct. 10.
