Day 1 Recap: Rowe to 400m Hurdle Finals; Carey and Sutter Compete at NAIA Championships

Senior Jaida Rowe won her heat and had the best time in the 400m hurdle prelims, crossing the finish line at 58.02 to advance to the finals. The 400m hurdles final will take place on Friday at approximately 4:15pm. Rowe will also compete in the 110m hurdle prelims tomorrow.
In the heptathlon, sophomore Lucy Carey is currently 14th in the overall standings with 2745 points through four of the seven events. She was ninth in the 100m hurdles (14.93) and high jump (1.54m), 11th in the shot put (9.52), and 14th in the 200m (26.78). The final three competitions of the heptathlon will take place tomorrow.
Freshman Brooklyn Sutter placed 15th in the 1500m prelims, finishing with a time of 4:44.53, five seconds off a qualifying time for the finals.
Hastings will resume their competitions at NAIA Championships tomorrow for day two of the three-day event. Joining Rowe on the track tomorrow is senior Ava Brackhan, sophomore Destini Johnson, and senior Mikayla Seebohm, who will all compete in the 5000m race walk. Carey will wrap up the heptathlon tomorrow, while sophomore Ellie Lloyd will take part in the javelin throw finals.
