Carey Wins Pentathlon; Rowe Gets B-Standard in 400m and 60m Hurdles
(Crete, NE/Lincoln, NE) – The women’s track and field team weekend began at the Fred Beile Classic on Friday with the first Pentathlon Meet of the indoor season. Hastings also had a few participants in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, while the rest competed in the Saturday portion of the Fred Beile Classic.

Sophomore Lucy Carey won the pentathlon and opened up the meet with an indoor personal record for the 60m hurdles at 9.01 to win the race. Carey also set personal records in the high jump at 1.57m, in the shot put at 8.87m, and in the long jump at 5.43m. She won all of those competitions besides the shot put, which she took fourth in.
Carey also had a second-place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:33.36. She finished with a score of 3396 points, ranking her fifth in the nation and improving her pentathlon score on the top 10 chart to put her in sixth place. The next pentathlon meet will be at the GPAC Conference on February 20-21 in Sioux City, IA.
At the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, senior Jaida Rowe had a fifth-place finish in the 400m with a 'B-Standard' time of 57.06. In the 400m, freshman Brooklyn Sutter ran a time of 2:22.10, placing her 26th, and junior Grace Dow came in 27th with a time of 2:23.39, setting her a new personal record and moving her into seventh on the top 10 charts.
At the Fred Beile Classic on Saturday, Rowe took first in the 60m hurdles with a 'B-Standard' time of 8.77. Sophomore Ava Reese came in second with a time of 8.93, setting a new personal record and moving her into sixth on the top 10 charts. Senior Kathryn Columbus was sixth at 10.70.
In the 60m dash, Reese ran a time of 7.92, getting second place and setting a new personal record. Freshman Samara Humphrey finished fourth with a time of 8.15, also setting a new personal record. Freshman Gianna Humphrey finished sixth with a time of 8.16.
Senior Ava Brackhan ran a time of 22:06.44 in the 5000m run, placing 6th. Freshman Paige Faimon ran a time of 1:51.20 in the 600m run, setting a new personal record and getting 10th. In the 1000m, freshman Claire Noerrlinger finished 13th with a time of 3:27.60. Freshman Kate Baker ran a time of 6:17.05 in the mile, getting 25th.
In the field events, sophomore Kamerin Turner took seventh in the long jump with a top leap of 4.97m, getting her a seventh place. G. Humphrey was 11th at 4.84m and S. Humphrey was 18th at 4.34m. In the high jump, G. Humphrey had a jump of 1.51m, placing her 11th overall. Senior Melissa Hines had a jump of 1.46m, placing her 15th overall.
Senior Trinity Doublin had a triple jump of 10.45m to place eighth overall. S. Humphrey was 14th overall at 9.55m, followed by freshman Gabryella Bates, who had a jump of 9.31 meters, placing her 16th.
In the shot put, freshman Katelyn Strampher had a throw of 11.68m, which set a new personal record, finishing 11th overall. Freshman Mattilynn Schroeder was 15th overall at 11.31m. Schroeder finished 24th in the weight throw at 11.73m, a new personal record.
Hastings will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 14th at the Concordia Indoor Invitational beginning at 10am.
