Shotgun Sports Finishes 2nd in Skeet at ACUI & SCTP Collegiate Nationals; Takes 10th Overall
(San Antonio, TX) – The Hastings shotgun sports team competed at the ACUI & SCTP Collegiate Nationals beginning on Mar. 16. Hastings was 10th among the 29 teams in the division three section. Out of all divisions, Hastings was 29th out of 107 teams.
(San Antonio, TX) – The Hastings shotgun sports team competed at the ACUI & SCTP Collegiate Nationals beginning on Mar. 16. Hastings' best performance came in skeet, where they overcame an early deficit with a great finish to rise up to National Runner-Up in division three with 484 targets. The Broncos were 10th among the 29 teams in the division three section. Out of all divisions, Hastings was 29th out of 107 teams.
Hastings also performed well in doubles trap, coming in fourth at 454 targets. Senior Hayden Thomason was in a shoot off with 99 out of 100 targets for second and third place in men's open skeet.
In the Men's HOA Individual, senior Hunter Gilbertson finished 119th overall with 543 targets out of a possible 600. He placed 92nd in doubles with 184 targets, 111th in trap with 189 targets, 119th in skeet with 188 targets, and 120th in singles with 193 targets. Thomason was 150th with 537 targets, taking 120th in skeet with 188 targets, 121st in singles with 193 targets, and 125th in doubles with 182 targets.
Junior Chase Wieczorek placed 289th with 511 targets, sophomore Jace Bax was 329th overall with 502 targets, junior Jake Royal finished 414th with 481 targets, and freshman Davis Davenport was 474th overall with 459 targets.
In the Women's HOA Individual, freshman Abbie Blackwell took 55th with 501 targets, placing 37th in trap with 185 targets and 45th in doubles with 173 targets. Junior Katrice Lyons was 60th overall with 499 targets, taking 50th in doubles with 171 targets and 60th in sporting with 153 targets.
Sophomore Mollie Wechsler placed 82nd with 483 targets, taking 70th in skeet with 178 targets. Junior Hannah Sears was 89th with 476 targets, finishing 47th in singles with 189 targets and 56th in trap with 178 targets.
Wieczorek, Davenport, Sears, Thomason, Gilbertson, and Lyons were also named Academic All-Americans at the event.
The Broncos will now look to the offseason as they prepare for next season.
