Berger Leads Bronco 2nd Half Comeback Over Chargers
(Sioux City, IA) – The men’s soccer team had their second second half great comeback of the season in their 2-1 victory over Briar Cliff on Saturday in their first conference road match of the season.

(Sioux City, IA) – The men's soccer team had their second second half great comeback of the season in their 2-1 victory over Briar Cliff on Saturday in their first conference road match of the season.
The Chargers scored the lone goal of the first half in the fifth minute of the game. Briar Cliff took twice as many shots as Hastings in the first half (6-3) and took four shots on goal compared to zero for Hastings.
Senior goalkeeper Pablo Arce-Salinas had three saves in the first half, while juniors Juan Arteaga-Lopez and David Hoti, and senior Lewis Bowes each registered one shot attempt in the first half.
Hastings got their first goal of the game on a header from freshman Tim Berger off of a throw-in pass from sophomore Ayo Makinde in the 77th minute.
Then, in the 81st minute, Berger scored again, sending the Bronco sideline into a frenzy. The Chargers had a couple of shots on goal late, including a shot that was saved by Arce-Salinas with two seconds left, but the Broncos held on for the 2-1 win.
Berger, who scored both goals, led the Broncos with 3 shot attempts, with all three being on goal. Senior Joe Vokins also had two shots on goals, while Arce-Salinas ended the game with seven saves.
Up next, Hastings will go to Seward, NE on Wednesday, September 25 to face Concordia at 8pm in Bulldog Stadium.
