Doane Tennis Tops Hastings, 6-1

In doubles, Doane took the #1 match by a 6-0 score over the Broncos. They held off freshmen Cara Ansbach and Lexi Benson at #2, as well as sophomore Josline Carter and freshman Kayleigh Cetak at #3, both by a close 6-4 score to sweep doubles and take a 1-0 lead over Hastings.
Hastings had a couple of players have very close singles matches, including Benson, who dropped her first set at #5 singles, 6-4. She rallied from a 4-3 second set deficit to force a third set super-tiebreak with a 6-4 second set win, as many of the other matches completed and Doane had already clinched the match. Both players each won a point to start the tiebreak, then Benson won eight straight points to go up 9-1. Doane tried to fight back, but Benson was able to outlast the Tigers 10-4 in the third set super-tiebreak.
Sophomore Victoria Harris came out strong in her #2 singles match, winning the first set 6-2. Doane fought back and took a 5-2 lead in the second set, but Harris held on her next service game and broke the Tigers' serve to make it 5-4, but Doane was able to break back even up the match at one-set all. With the match not being clinched at the end of their second set, they played a full third set. Harris went up 2-0 in the third, but Doane won six of the last seven games to win 6-3.
Sophomore Abby Harveson played a competitive match at #6 singles, falling 6-3, 6-3. Ansbach also managed to win a couple of games each set in her 6-2, 6-2 loss at #4 singles. Doane also won the #1 and #3 singles matches by losing three combined games to win the match, 6-1.
Up next, Hastings will play at College of Saint Mary on Saturday, April 5 at 2pm.
