Men's Tennis Starts 2026 Season With Loss to Sterling

(Hastings, NE) – Starting the spring season at home against Sterling, the Hastings Broncos came up short in a 6-1 loss on Friday.
Hastings started off with the upper hand in the doubles point with a 6-1 win at #3 doubles by senior Ethan Mins and freshman Gavin Watterson. Sterling won #2 doubles 6-2, then tied at three in the #1 doubles match, the Warriors got the break point at deuce and won the next two games to take it 6-3 and secure the doubles point.
After a 6-0 first set win by Sterling at #2 singles, senior Ben Hafer led 4-3 before being forced to retire from his match. The Warriors went up 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #3 singles. Sophomore Joel Carter took the opening set 7-5 at one singles, but Sterling forced a third set super tiebreak by winning the second set, 6-4. The Warriors ended up with the win in the super tiebreak, 10-8, to clinch the match.
Sterling won both the four and five singles matches by losing a combined five games. Freshman Aden Ingwerson got the lone Broncos' point with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6 singles.
