Career Night from Binder Propels Hastings to Win over Waldorf

After taking an early 12-8 lead, the Warriors went on a 9-2 run to give themselves an 11-point cushion in the first half. Hastings responded with a five-point run of their own. Freshman Maverick Binder dished the ball to junior Christian Pujals who tied it at 35-35 just before the halftime break.
Binder led the Hastings offense tonight, shooting above 50% from the field and behind the arc.
The Broncos came out of the halftime break with some fire as they went on a 5-0 run to start the half. Waldorf did not let Hastings hold the advantage for long and went on another run of their own, taking a 44-40 lead.
Binder, who finished the night with 27 points, went seven for eight from the line with three of those coming in the final seconds. He pushed the late Bronco lead to 70-66 with 16 seconds on the clock.
After Waldorf hit a 3-pointer to cut the score to 70-69, Binder hit another free throw with one second to play. Ultimately, the Broncos won 71-69. Hastings outrebounded the Warriors, 40-35, while shooting 42 percent from the field.
Binder had a team-high eight rebounds to go along with his 27 points. Junior Myles Simon added 10 points and five rebounds, while junior DaRon Hall had nine points and four rebounds off the bench.
Next up the Broncos are back at Lynn Farrell Arena on Saturday, Feb. 1 when #12 Dordt (20-1) comes to town.
