Women's Wrestling Shows Out at Warrior Women's Open

At 160 in the Pancake bracket, freshman Brooke Schilke had a terrific day, opening with two tech fall wins over Manchester and Baldwin-Wallace. She continued her excellence with a quarterfinal late pin over Emily Gervais of the Purdue Wrestling Club and a pin at the 4:19 mark to defeat William Penn's Kylee Eastwood in the semifinal. She ran into 18th-ranked Alexa Wolf of William Penn in the championship match, losing on a 4-2 decision to conclude the day at 4-1.
Freshman Mandy Perez had another good day of competition at 180 in the Pancake bracket following last weeks' performance. After a first round bye, she pinned her second-round opponent and advanced to the semifinals with a quarterfinal 14-9 decision win over William Penn. She lost via tech fall to Life's Anetra Weatherspoon in the semifinals, but took third with a pin 38 seconds into the bout against Mount Union's Hailey Rose-Caldwell to end her day at 4-1.
Junior Larissa Kaz, ranked #13 at 131, won her first round match in the Maximus bracket by fall at the 3:26 mark, then after getting pinned late in her second round match against William Penn, she beat Anna Rodriguez from Eastern Oregon by tech fall in her first consolation match. Kaz made easy work in her second consolation match, winning on a 13-2 tech fall over Mackenzie English from Providence to move to the Consolation A final where she pinned Life's Jordyn Chrisco at the 4:12 mark to go 4-1 on the day.
At 138, sophomore Reagen Gallaway, ranked #5, won her first two matches in the Maximus bracket. The first win was on a 4-2 decision and the second was on a 33-second pin over Athena Colderon of Siena Heights. She lost via tech fall in the quarterfinals to the number one wrestler in the NAIA, but responded by dominating seventh-ranked Kori Campbell from Lindsey Wilson to advance to the fifth-place match. She took sixth after losing on a close 9-8 decision late to third-ranked Kendall Bostelman, going 3-2 overall.
Wrestling at 145, freshman Emma Stice, ranked #12, opened her day with a win in the Maximus bracket by fall less than a minute into the match, then fell late in the second round to #13 Maia Crumb of Indiana Tech. Stice was unable to win her first consolation match on a close 8-5 decision to end her day with a 1-2 record.
Senior Marissa Patterson, ranked #11 at 180, began her competition in the Maximus bracket with a pin at the 2:07 mark over Adrian's Mia Gaetjens before losing by tech fall to Campbellsville. Patterson won her first consolation match with a 10-0 tech fall win over #20th-ranked Ciera Hutton-Spieker from Ottawa, then lost a tight 5-4 decision to North Central to finish 2-2.
Junior Taylor Rickley, ranked #15 at 207, took care of her first round opponent with a pin in under a minute of the Maximus bracket, then fell to fifth-ranked Riley Dempewolf of Indiana Tech in the second round. In her first consolation match, Rickley lost by fall to Phoebe Burt of William Penn to finish 1-2.
Competing in the 160 Maximus bracket, freshman Izzy Deeds lost by tech fall to Ottawa to begin her day, then wrestled just one match in the consolation bracket due to byes, losing on a tech fall in the Consolation B Bracket final to Eastern Oregon's Chloe Overgaag.
Over in the 138 Pancake bracket, junior Brianna Miller started out with a first round bye win and a pin less than two minutes into her second round match. She lost by fall in the quarterfinals to North Central as well in her first consolation match. In the seventh place match, Miller was pinned at the 3:47 mark to take eighth with a record of 2-3.
Freshman Aubrey Sharbono pinned Adrian's Mina Casarez in the first round of the 145 Pancake bracket, then lost by fall in the second round. She won her first consolation match by fall at the 1:27 mark before getting pinned in the Consolation A semifinals.
Up next, the Broncos will travel to Fremont for a dual against Midland at 5pm on Friday, Feb. 7.
