Women's Wrestling Topples Doane 25-19
Crete, NE – The Hastings College wrestling team picked up a huge upset victory over rival Doane by defeating the Tigers 25-19 on Tuesday night.
Crete, NE – The Hastings College wrestling team picked up a huge upset victory over rival Doane by defeating the Tigers 25-19 on Tuesday night.
After falling behind 4-0, Candice Brickell picked up a tech fall 12-2 victory over Brooke Cox at 116 to bring HC to within one at 5-4 as Cox did earn a team point in the match. Hastings then took the lead as Lily Gomez picked up a forfeit at 123.
Doane bounced back with a win at 130 but Tabitha Wood made quick work of Hannah Nix at 136 by pinning her just :44 into the match as the Lady Broncos now led the match 15-9.
The Tigers would regain the lead with wins at 143 and 155 as Hastings trailed by four heading into the final two matches.
Taylor Rickley would upset No. 17 Lamia Benn at 170 by pinning her at the 2:14 mark to give Hastings a slim 20-19 lead. Then Abby Beeck sealed the victory by pinning Victoria Hernandez at the 2:34 mark to give Hastings the 25-19 conference victory.
Hastings will be back in action Tuesday Feb. 7 as the Lady Broncos will host a Tri Dual with York and Ottawa set to begin at 6:00 pm in Kiewit Gymnasium.
