The top performance came at 123 where Larissa Kaz rolled through her competition in pool play. She won each of her matches via pin as her longest match came against Danica Linn of Iowa Western and it lasted just 1:13. Kaz entered the knockout stage where she faced off against Arianna Marrufo of Jamestown where she fell behind 4-0 before getting Marrufo locked in a position on her back and pinned her at the 1:27 mark to advance to the championship match. There she would fall to Taylin Long 11-6 as she settled for the silver.
At 109, Candice Brickell had a great day on the mat picking up three wins in pool play action as all three came via pin. By going 3-1, this moved her into the third place match where she was up against Leila Sidhu. Brickell did fall behind early but bounced back when she slammed Sidhu to the mat causing an injury at the 1:09 mark. Sidhu had to end the match there as she could no longer wrestle giving third place to Brickell.
Bemnet Tesfa didn't do as well in in pool play at 101 as she went 1-3 as her win did come by a 10-0 tech fall. But that win put her in the seventh place match where she faced off against Alanis Serrano of Waldorf. Tesfa battled all match long and late in period two, she would get credit for a take down to take the lead for the first time at 4-3 and was able to fend off a late charge as time ran out as she earned seventh place.
Taylor Rickley would go 2-3 in pool play at 170 picking up pin fall victories over Samantha Simonette of Texas Women's Univ. and Emma Crichton of Chadron which moved her into the bracket stage where she was competing for either fifth place or seventh place. After dropping her consolation semifinal, she moved into the seventh place match where she would pin Gracy Jones at the 2:46 mark to win seventh place. This avenged her earlier 8-5 loss in pool play.
Hastings will now turn its attention to the York Open to be hosted by York University on Saturday Jan. 14 in York, NE.
