Softball Falls To Dordt in GPAC Tournament Elimination Game
(Fremont, NE) – Trying to stave off elimination after their opening round loss, the #7-seed Hastings Broncos lost 8-1 in their second game of the double-elimination GPAC Tournament to the #6-seed Dordt Defenders in the Midland Pod. The game was originally scheduled for yesterday at 6pm, but was moved to today due to rain.

(Fremont, NE) – Trying to stave off elimination after their opening round loss, the #7-seed Hastings Broncos lost 8-1 in their second game of the double-elimination GPAC Tournament to the #6-seed Dordt Defenders in the Midland Pod. The game was originally scheduled for yesterday at 6pm, but was moved to today due to rain.
Hastings started strong with the first four batters reaching safely in the opening inning. Senior Isabel Tanabe singled up the middle, then after a walk to senior Lauren Schneider, sophomore Kaylee Pinneo loaded the bases on a base hit to center. Junior Lauren Lee was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat to drive in Tanabe, but Dordt limited the damage by getting a double-play and a strikeout to keep the Hastings lead at 1-0.
Dordt tied the game up with a two-out RBI single in the second and erupted four four runs on five hits in the third, with four of the first five batters reaching safely, to go up 5-1 on the Broncos.
The Defenders added a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. Hastings later loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth, as Pinneo and Lee singled, then senior Nicole Halsey walked in a pinch-hit opportunity. Dordt got its second double play of the game with the bases loaded and nobody out, then ended the inning with a flyout. The Defenders held on to win 8-1 by retiring the first three batters of the seventh inning.
Hastings was held to one run on four hits and three walks in the game, while Dordt managed eight runs on 12 hits and four walks. Pinneo led the Broncos offensively with two hits.
The loss ends the Bronco season as they look towards the offseason in preparation for next season.
