Softball Shuts Out Concordia in Game 1 of Split Series
(Hastings, NE) – The Hastings College Broncos took on the Concordia University Bulldogs in a double-header on Wednesday. Hastings won the opener, 4-0, and lost the second, 11-5.

The Broncos began game one on a high note as junior Ana Medeiros hit a double, advancing junior Lauren Lee to third base and senior Lauren Schneider scoring the game's first run. Shortly after, senior Lexie Mudloff doubled to center field, enabling Medeiros and Lee to cross home plate, extending the lead to 3-0 by the end of the first inning.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, sophomore Kaylee Pinneo singled to center field, allowing senior Shey Storesund to score the Broncos fourth run, the score is 4-0. Broncos take game one.
Junior Kiera Brack threw a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits and struck out two. The Broncos had a tremendous hitting performance with eight of the nine batters getting hits off in game one.
In the second game, the Bulldogs took an early lead by scoring the first run in the top of the first inning, making it 1-0. The Broncos quickly responded in the bottom of the same inning, with Pinneo hitting a single to center field, enabling senior Isabel Tanabe to cross home plate and tie the score at 1-1. Shortly after, Lee's hit drove in Schneider, giving the Broncos a 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning.
The Bulldogs responded in the top of the fourth inning by scoring four runs, making the score 5-2. The Broncos in the bottom of the fourth inning scored another run with Schneider getting a hit that allowed freshman Sofia Carroll to score a run, to make the score 5-3.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs scored five more runs, making the score 10-3. In the top of the seventh inning, the Bulldogs scored another run, making the score 11-3.
In the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs, Tanabe singled to center field, Carroll advanced to third, and Kappler scored. Following, Schneider singled to shortstop, Tanabe advanced to second, and Carroll scored. The Broncos' rally fell short as Concordia got a flyout to end the game, 11-5.
