Hastings, NE – The Hastings College football team ended its season with a 41-10 loss to No. 3 Northwestern on Saturday on Lloyd Wilson Field.
It was a tough day for the Broncos as the offense started the day with two three and outs and on its third possession fumbled the ball away as the Raiders took the fumble 43 yards to the house as Hastings trailed 27-0 early in the second quarter.
Hastings would not get on the board until the fourth quarter when the offense marched 12 plays covering 66 yards which was highlighted by a double pass when John Zamora threw the ball back to Jesse Ulrich where he flung the ball deep down the middle where Ethan Wilborn came down with the ball at the Northwestern one. The Broncos would get pushed back two yards and would settle for a 20-yard field goal by Jason Bachle to make it 41-3.
On Hastings next possession, it turned into another 12 play drive marching 56 yards as Jhon Williams did the work early carrying the ball four times for 19 yards. A nine yard scramble on third and eight by Zamora gave HC a first down on the Raider 12. After Zamora hit Tanner Schneiderheinz for seven yards, Zamora did the rest scoring from three yards out on fourth and one to finish up the scoring at 41-10.
Hastings finished the game with 255 yards of offense compared to 409 for Northwestern.
Zamora finished the game going 11-for-26 for 93 yards and two interceptions. Zamora led the team with 61 yards rushing on 11 carries and one score. Antoine Murphy finished with 48 yards receiving while Wilborn at the one grab for 39 yards.
Ulrich led the defense with 10 total tackles while Koby Brandenburg finished with six tackles and two pass breakups. Caden Egr added seven tackles and two tackles for loss including a sack. The Raiders held the time of possession by nearly three minutes.
Hastings finishes the 2022 campaign at 7-4 (6-4) while recording its first winning season since 2014 and its first seven win season since 2009.
