Football Stymied By Defenders
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - The Hastings College football team continued their stout November schedule on Saturday, facing off against the Dordt Defenders. Unfortunately for the Broncos, the Defenders were too much in the 65-0 victory for the home squad.
The Broncos, who now sit at 2-6 on the season, were able to get the better of the Defenders' offense on the first drive of the game, forcing a quick three-and-out, but were held to the same on its first offensive drive.
On the ensuing drive, Dordt Quarterback Noah Clayberg ended the drought with a 25-yard rushing touchdown to put the Defenders ahead 7-0.
The Broncos had an opportunity to chip into the score early in the second quarter after a Malik Thorpe (JR/Denver, CO) 69-yard hand off, to get the Broncos into the redzone, but a field goal attempt that went wide right kept the Defenders' lead at 21-0.
The Defenders were strong on defense, holding the Broncos to 190 total yards on offense, whilst the offense stormed to 631 offensive yards.
Thorpe led the offense for the Broncos with 90 yards on the ground, including his 69-yard rush. Brett Simonsen (SO/Sutton, NE) was able to tack on another 67 rushing yards to the Broncos' total. John Zamora (SO/San Antonio, TX ) threw for 26 yards.
The Broncos will conclude their season in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday, making up a postponed game against the Morningside Mustangs. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. CST on Nov. 21.
