Football Drops Season Finale to Northwestern
Hastings- The Hastings College football team was unable to get the momentum they needed on Saturday against Northwestern in what was a 31-12 home loss for Hastings on Senior Night.
The Red Raiders (9-1,7-1 GPAC) jumped ahead early against the Broncos (5-6,2-6 GPAC) after NWIA's Jacob Kalogonis ate up 66 yards in three plays, including a 5-yard rushing touchdown to put the Red Raiders ahead 7-0.
On the ensuing drive, The Broncos got the ball up to their 31 yard line, but a fumble recovery by the Red Raiders ended the drive for Hastings. The Broncos kept Northwestern to a field goal with 8:19 left to play in the first quarter.
Hastings found themselves in a rough situation again when a pass from Clark Livingston (JR/San Juan Capistrano, CA) intended for Jordan Johnson (JR/Spring Valley, CA) was snagged by Northwestern and nine play later, Kalogonis got his second rushing touchdown of the day to put the Red Raiders ahead 17-0 with 3:06 left in the first quarter.
Hastings got on the board in their first drive of the second half, that included 19-yard and 15-yard rushes by Anthony Cloyd (SR/Omaha, NE) and Tahj Willingham (JR/Greenwood Village, CO). The Broncos, facing a 4th-and-6, caught a break with a roughing the kicker penalty and five plays later got into the end zone with a 25-yard rushing touchdown by Cloyd, but a missed PAT kept it a 17-6 game.
With :31 seconds left in the first half, Hastings got the ball after Northwestern failed on a fourth down conversion at midfield. Hastings got down the field with a 26-yard pass from Livingston to Rashaad Shamburger (JR/Woodland Hills, CA), a 14-yard pass to Noah Housh (SR/Lincoln, NE), and a 10-yard passing touchdown to Jordan Johnson. A failed two-point conversion made it 17-12 in favor of the Red Raiders going into halftime.
Northwestern got the separation they needed from the Broncos with a Tyson Kooima rushing touchdown to make the score 24-12. Northwestern got their final touchdown on their last drive of the game, with Gabe Toki running it for 26 yards the 2-yard line and getting the 2-yard rushing touchdown on the next play.
Hastings finishes the season with a record of 5-6.
