(Omaha, NE) - After a start to the year where they finished 11th out of 13, the Lady Broncos rebounded nicely finishing 4th out of 10 (364 team total) teams there. Some of the opponents they beat included the likes of both Doane teams and Concordia. There were even moments during the tournament where they were ahead of the likes of Northwestern and even scared Mount Marty a bit. Even though they tailed off in the end, they showed good improvement from last week to this week.
Assistant coach Mackenzie Loseke said the winds were gusting up to 30 mph. It proved today as none of the ladies in the tournament were able to break 80 today. However, it was sophomore Kya Shatzer, who after a rough start going +4 in the first two holes, was able to stay head strong and match that same score the next 16 holes, shooting a +8 (80) to win the tournament by four shots. This included two clutch birdies on the par-4 14th and the par-5 4th, along with a bunch of clutch par saves like on the 5th, 6th and 10th.
The other scores that also made an impact on the team's total of 364 includes freshman Raleigh Lard (93), sophomore Tyesha Tynes (95) and Lauren Buscher (96). Makayla Miller also shot a 96 with a birdie on the par-5 4th. Yet, big numbers on the card cost her a shot at helping the team, and also a strong finish as well. Once those are cleaned up, her impact on the team will be massive.
The women's next challenge is in Wichita, Kansas at Auburn Hills GC as they will compete in the one day event, the Wichita Air Capital Classic on Monday, September 16th.
