Men's Wrestling Hosts Bronco Open

Sophomore Nicholas Freeland advanced out of the first round with a bye in round one at 157, then took control of his match against Augustana en route to winning on a 10-0 major decision. In the quarterfinals, he lost by a 19-3 tech fall to Nebraska Kearney. Freeland lost his consolation opener to Augustana on a 12-8 decision, finishing 2-2.
Freshman Jordan Tobias defeated Midland in his opening match at 149, taking care of business with a fall at the 2:58 mark. He was unable to knock off Concordia, but regrouped nicely to pin York two minutes into his first consolation match, then grinded out a 3-0 decision over Mitchell Koss of Sioux Falls in the next round. Tobias fell in his third consolation match to end his day, finishing 3-2.
Competing in the 174 weight class, junior Keenan Griffin was able to advance to the quarterfinals with a 10-3 first round win over Anderson Tate of Oklahoma Wesleyan. He was unable to come out on top in the quarterfinal match, falling at the 2:04 mark to Augustana. Griffin was then pinned in his first consolation match against Nebraska-Kearney to finish 1-2.
At 133, sophomore Justin Rodriguez won by a 17-6 major decision over Sioux Falls, then fell in a close 4-3 decision to D'Andre Brown of Fort Hays State. In his first consolation match, he flipped the script, defeating Andrew Honas of Fort Hays State on a 6-5 decision. Rodriguez ended his day with a 4-1 loss to Concordia in his second consolation match with a 2-2 record.
Also competing at 133, sophomore Logan Hackman lost his first match after a first-round bye, but managed to get an 11-5 decision win over Fort Hays State in his consolation opener. Hackman's day concluded with a close 2-0 decision loss versus Concordia to finish 1-2.
Freshman Conall Liburdi lost his opening match at 184 by fall, then advanced to his second and third consolation matches following medical forfeit wins over Augustana and Sioux Falls. Liburdi's run ended by getting pinned at the 2:47 mark against Concordia, finishing 2-2.
Up next, Hastings will travel to Crete, NE on Friday, Jan. 17 for a dual against Doane at 7pm.
