Men's Tennis Comes From Behind to Defeat Baker
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College men’s tennis team wiped away a 3-1 deficit to defeat Baker 4-3 on Sunday inside the Physical Fitness Facility.
Hastings, NE – The Hastings College men's tennis team wiped away a 3-1 deficit to defeat Baker 4-3 on Sunday inside the Physical Fitness Facility.
The Broncos lost the point from doubles as the Wildcats won two of the matches so it came down to singles matches. Baker quicky won No. 2 and No. 5 singles to go up 3-1.
At No. 1 singles, Nick Smeltzer was in an absolute dog fight as the match went to a tiebreaker. There Smeltzer had to fight off three match points in order to eventually win the tiebreaker 10-8.
Thane Waite won his match at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-2 to tie things up at 3-3.
The match came down to Evan Franke at No. 4 singles where he would drop set one 6-2. He battled back to for a tiebreaker by dominating set two 6-1 and then won the tiebreaker 10-7 to give the Broncos its first win of the season.
Hastings is now 1-3 on the year and will be back in action Friday Feb. 24 hitting the road to take on Metro out in Denver, CO.
