Sioux City, IA – The Hastings College baseball team dropped an absolute heartbreaker 1-0 (11 innings) in game one to Morningside before losing game two 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.
James Velasquez had another outstanding pitching performance throwing 7.0 innings giving up no runs and just three hits in the no decision.
The Broncos would have multiple runners on base in the third, fourth, fifth and runners in scoring position in the sixth, seventh and 10th but just could not come up with the big hit to bring in the much-needed run.
The Mustangs were in a position to win the game in the eighth having loaded the bases with no outs, but Jaden Jurgensmier had other plans. He would induce a pop out, a strikeout and a groundout to end the threat as the game remained tied 0-0.
The Mustangs again loaded the bases in the 11th with one out as Cole Peterson was able to get Luke Froehlich to hit a slow bounding ball to Jared Delgado as he came up and threw home to try and get the force out at the plate. The runner moved from foul territory to fair territory as the ball would hit him and he would be called safe as the Broncos were hoping to get the runner interference call that never came.
The Broncos then struggled to get its bats going in game two picking up just three hits in the 6-0 loss to the Mustangs.
Hastings is now 9-23 (1-11) on the year and will be back in action Saturday Apr. 6 as Dakota Wesleyan comes to town for a doubleheader with first pitch set for 1:00 pm out at Duncan Field.
