Neither team scored in the first half with both teams forcing punts, in addition to Mount Marty getting an interception and Hastings getting a fourth down stop, thanks to a great pressure from junior Tywan January.
Junior defensive lineman Marquise Keeten forced a fumble early in the second quarter to get the ball back, but Mount Marty took it away again two plays later. After a Lancer punt, a 60-yard run by junior Dalton Armbruster got the Broncos down to the Lancer 15. Hastings would be forced to settle for a 28-yard field goal by Willmott to go up 3-0.
Mount Marty went up 7-3 on a touchdown with under two minutes left in the first half. On Hastings' first play of their drive, sophomore quarterback Jarrett Synek connected with junior wide receiver Jake Weidinger for a 61-yard gain down to the Lancer 10. Synek and Armbruster led the Broncos down the field with a solid run game and short passing attack. On third-and-seven from their own 44, Synek connected with Nappe for 13 yards, then found senior Quaesean Hill for a 15-yard reception.
With 25 seconds left from the Lancer 28, Hastings was called for a holding penalty. Mount Marty returned the favor with a pass inference call, setting up the Broncos at the 23 yard line. After a Lancer timeout, Willmott's line-drive kick sailed past the Lancer pass rush and right through the uprights to win it, 23-20.
