Dance Places 4th; Cheer 6th at GPAC Championships
Hastings - The Hastings College cheer and dance teams were in action as the Lady Broncos hosted the Great Plains Athletic Conference Cheer and Dance Championships on Saturday afternoon inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
The dance team would go on to place fourth out of eight teams while the cheer team finished sixth. Midland claimed first in both cheer and dance.
Head Coach Mikaelah Molifua talked about both performances, "Honestly, I'm super proud of them, we've been dealing with adversity this whole season with injuries and eligibility," Molifua continued. "Having them perform there best even with the falls and the touches in both cheer and dance, I know that was all they could give me in that time and moment. I'm super proud of them, I'm super excited for the dance team getting fourth place is a great achievement for them. I know we have a lot more to grow, I know we need to clean some things up and have to change a few things but that's just how any sport goes."
We do not know the results of all-conference but coach Molifua touched on the individual performances, "All-Conference is tough honestly, I think that those girls went out ther with their full heart and did to their best of their ability," Molifua said. "You're getting judged by not only the judges but all eyes are on you and when it's just four people going at a time followed by a solo piece, it's so nerve racking to have to do that so I'm super proud of them for having the courage to go out and not only do it, but do it well."
Both the cheer and dance teams were overwhelmed by the support from other groups here on campus to help out with the even along with cheering them on (pun intended), "It's really nice because we are there on the sidelines supporting those teams and then when they come back and support those who are supporting them, that feels so good," Molifua continued. "The football was super great giving us enough people to help, walk people around, help at the doors to make sure no one was standing out in the cold for too long. Having all of the track girls and all the other athletic teams out here, it's super cool to see the support from all around the school as even some administration and faculty members were out there. It was just really cool to see them out there cheering us on when we are usually the ones cheer everyone else on for the long haul."
