Back-to-Back GPAC Champs
Sioux City - The Hastings College cheerleading squad was looking to equal what it did a year ago and did just that earning back-to-back Great Plains Athletic Conference non-stunt champions on Saturday.
Head Coach Nicole Kimura on her teams accomplishments, "today's GPAC was a culmination of lots of hard work," Kimura continued. "months of hard work all wrapped up into a couple two minute routines, and i couldn't be more proud of these women athletes."
The Broncos competed against three other teams in the non-stunt category coming away with the top score of 77.15. Briar Cliff was second at 75.5 while Concordia finished third and Nebraska Wesleyan finished fourth.
"I've coached these women for four seasons now and they never cease to amaze me in their efforts," Kimura said. "I'll tell you what, they're just that good and that makes me a better coach."
"Our motto for this competition season was; stay humble, stay hungry, and stay focused," Kimura said. "I never wanted us to hang our hats on last years win, I wanted us to focus on what we could be this year. I always say 'Hope is not a strategy' so we had to meticulously plan our routine and leave it all out there. Now, we're back-to-back champs and that's pretty cool."
