Bio

Since 2017, Wells has served as Director of Human Performance for Hastings College.  He has oversight and responsibility for the Human Performance program as a whole. Going into the 2021-22 academic school year he will also serve as the Director of the Athletic Management program.  A brand new program at Hastings College that is ideal for students looking to be involved in athletics and work directly with student-athletes on holistic development.  The students will gain experience and grow leadership skills as they develop their expertise that support all facets of a healthy athletic department.  The program is designed for students who will not be competing in intercollegiate athletics but still want to be involved.

Oversight of both the Human Performance and Athletic Management programs entails sustainable fundraising, facility upgrades/upkeep, and program development.  Both programs have direct influence on and work with all 600 student-athletes.

Currently Wells oversees a 19 member team. In 2017 when Wells took over as director it was a two member team.  An intern and himself.  Going into the 2021-22 academic school year the program has grown to a head human performance coach, five graduate assistants, and 12 interns.  Relationships have also been created or improved with a Registered Dietitian and Student-Athlete success coordinator now available to all Bronco student-athletes.  Members of the Human Performance program are employed at University of Kansas, Newman University, Pittsburg State, Hastings College, and Impact Sports.  Human Performance team members have served as interns at University of Nebraska-Lincoln (olympic), Creighton University (olympic), University of Minnesota (olympic), University of Texas (football), Florida Atlantic University (olympic), Abilene Christian University (olympic/football), East Tennessee State (olympic), Sanford Power, Push Performance, and Exos.

Throughout his tenure as director the Human Performance program has won three separate Innovation Grants to help with program development.  On top of that new lifting racks, barbells, benches, woodway treadmills, bumpers, and power blocks now fill the Robert Gottsch weight room.  Wells has been a part of one national championship, 13 conference championships, and multiple All-Americans. In early 2019 Wells was awarded the NSCA Nebraska Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year Award.

Wells earned a bachelor’s of science degree from Hastings College in Sociology and Psychology and a Master’s degree from Hastings College in Physical Education with an emphasis in strength and conditioning.  He played football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers for two years before becoming a Bronco for the Hastings College basketball program where he was a three time academic all American.

Wells resides in Hastings with his fiance Chelsey and daughter Adalynn (11)
