Entering his 6th-season as head coach at Hastings College, Coach Buttermore has compiled a 128-43 record in 5 seasons. Under Buttermore the Broncos have earned two Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Championships (2012 & 2016), one GPAC Tournament Championship (2016), three NAIA National Tournament Appearances, advanced to the NAIA Elite Eight (2012), three top ten final rankings (#6 in 2012, #9 in 2015 and #1 in 2016), and most recently won the 2016 NAIA National Championship. Buttermore has trained 24 All-Conference players, two GPAC Players of the Year, one NAIA Libero of the Year, and 7 All-Americans. Buttermore has also been recognized as the GPAC and West-Central Region Coach of the Year (2012, 2016), and in 2016 was named the NAIA National Tournament Coach of the Year, and the AVCA NAIA Coach of the Year.
Prior to coming to Hastings, Coach Buttermore spent three seasons as Assistant Coach at Bellevue (Neb.) University where he was a part of three NAIA National Tournament teams, 2 Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) regular season Championships and 2 MCAC Tournament Championships. In 2011 he was recognized as a 30 Under 30 Award Winner by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Previous to his time at Bellevue, Buttermore was the assistant coach at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska for three seasons.
A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, Buttermore played collegiately at the University of Findlay (NCAA I-II). He holds the University of Findlay’s record for blocks in a single match and total blocks in a season.
In addition to his undergraduate degree in English from University of Findlay, he completed a Master of Arts in Leadership at Bellevue University where he developed a leadership program for collegiate athletes. Buttermore is married to current Bronco Volleyball Strength Coach Laura Buttermore, and they have two daughters, Emelyn and Lainey.
“Laura (Pilakowski) Buttermore is entering her 5th season as the Strength Coach for the Bronco Volleyball, and was also an assistant coach during the 2012 season. Laura is NSCA certified and was the volleyball Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2004-2011 before moving to Hastings.
Before becoming a Strength Coach, Laura was a National Championship volleyball player at Nebraska in 2000. Individual accolades highlights:

Laura is a native of Columbus, NE and graduated with highest distinction from Nebraska in December 2003 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing. Laura is married to Bronco Volleyball head coach, Matt Buttermore, and they have two daughters, Emelyn and Lainey.
