Coach Mahoney begins his second year at Hastings College looking to build upon the successes his cross country and track & field teams compiled during his first year as head coach of the Broncos. During the 2013-14 seasons Hastings College cross country and track athletes produced 13 school records, 38 national qualifiers, 15 All-Americans, and 3 National Champions. The Hastings College Women’s Track & Field team compiled the best indoor and outdoor seasons in school history. At the GPAC Indoor Conference Meet the team scored over 30 points more than its previous school record. The Hastings College women exceeded that accomplishment by finishing 4th at outdoor nationals with 41.5 points. This was good for both the most points scored and the highest finish at a national meet in program history.
Sophomore Courtney Mills was named female outstanding performer at the GPAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet, scoring more points than any other female competitor at the meet. Junior Jennifer Maag was also a standout performer setting 2 school records, the GPAC Conference record in the outdoor shot put, and winning National Titles in the indoor shot put, as well as the shot put and discus outdoors. Maag was also named the State College Female Athlete of the Year by both the Lincoln Journal Star and the Omaha World Herald.
Both the Hastings College Men and Women’s track & field teams appeared in the top 25 national rankings in every poll during the 2013-14 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Coach Mahoney holds USA Track & Field Level II coaching endorsements in endurance, sprints/hurdles/relays, jumps, and throws. He is also a USATF certified Level I instructor. Currently Coach Mahoney teaches the track & field theory class in the spring at Hastings College and taught the University of Nebraska's Coaching Track & Field Class from 2005 - 2013.
Prior to joining Hastings College, Coach Mahoney spent 11 years building Lincoln (NE) Southwest High School’s Cross Country and Track and Field programs. At Southwest, he coached 11 individual state champions in various events. His teams won a total of 20 City, Conference, and District championships. As Head Coach at Lincoln Southwest and Assistant Coach at Lincoln Southeast – a position he held from 1998-2002, he led seven cross country and track and field teams to state championships. In 2009, the Sportscasters Club gave him the Ralph Beechner Coach of the Year Award. Also in 2009, Ryan earned the Miliken Family Foundation National Educator Award in 2009 for his performance in the classroom. Ryan graduated with high distinction from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) with a BS in Secondary Education and earned an MA in Historical Studies from Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Coach Mahoney has over 15 years experience coaching youth track & field as well. He has served as an official at three Junior Olympics and as regional coordinator at two Regional Championships. He has coached numerous athletes in various events to Regional Championships and Junior Olympic medals. His specialties have been the hurdles and the multi-events.
In his spare time coach Mahoney enjoys playing various sports, running road races, hiking, hunting, and travel. He has traveled to over 20 countries in Europe, Central America, and the Caribbean.
Zac Osgood is entering his 12th season as the throws coach for the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Coach Osgood graduated from Hastings College with a degree in physical education in 2003. He also earned his MAT degree from Hastings College in 2006. Under Osgood’s coaching the Bronco throwers have earned 35 Conference Championships, 73 All-American honors, 8 National Championships and 10 National Championship Runner-Ups. Coach Osgood’s throwers have broken 11 of the 12 school records in the throwing events. Throwers that he has coached currently hold conference records in the men’s weight throw and outdoor shot put, the women’s outdoor shot put, and the national record in the men’s weight throw. As an athlete at Hastings College, Osgood was a five time NAIA All-American, three times in the hammer and twice in the 35 lb. weight. Coach Osgood is a USA Track and Field Level II Certified Throws Coach.
Dave has been a Track and Field Coach for 30 years at the High School Level and 9 years at the collegiate level. He has coached over 10 State Champions in the Pole Vault and numerous Nebraska High School athletes have benefited from his expertise.
During his tenure at Hastings College he has put Pole Vault on the Conference and National map for Hastings College T&F. During his ten years at Hastings College he has coached 10 National Qualifiers, two All-Americans and 15 Hastings College all-time top ten performers.
Adam is entering his fourth season as an assistant coach. In addition to Adam's three years at Hastings College, he has already had success coaching at the high school level. He recently coached a high school state champion pole-vaulter as well as an All-American Heptathlon athlete. These are only two highlights of the many other high school state medalist Driver has coached. Adam is a Hastings College Alum who participated in track and field. While at Hastings College, Adam was a national qualifier in the pole vault earning a ninth place national finish with a vault of 16 feet.
