Hastings - The Hastings College men's soccer team was pushed by Briar Cliff but would end up pulling away for the 4-1 victory on Homecoming night at Lloyd Wilson Field.
Statistically, the Broncos dominated every part of the game on Saturday night and early on, it did appear that Hastings would be in for a blowout.
In just the 3rd minute, Daniel Simonis (FR/Dettenheim, Germany) would get the scoring going off the double assist from Nick Hinds (SR/Lincoln, NE) and Erik Tello (JR/Houston, TX) for the early 1-0 lead.
In the 34th minute, Daniel Whitehall (JR/Warrington, England) would do what he does best scoring his 11th goal of the season pushing the lead to 2-1.
That lead carried into the second half when Briar Cliff caught the Broncos on the counter and a cross Kye Edwards slipped through the hands of Joe White (SR/London, England) while Prichard Sibanda brought the Chargers to within one goal at 2-1.
But Hastings would continue to diminate play and then Whitehall slipped a pass outside to Jonathan Lopez (FR/Omaha, NE) and his cross found the streaking Lucas Venegas (SR/Grand Island, NE) making it 3-1 in the 56th minute.
The Broncos added one more insurance goal when Daniel Shonka (SR/Omaha, NE) found the back of the net in the 89th minute off the Hinds assist.
Hastings out shot the Chargers 28-10 including a 14-7 advantage in shots on goal.
White finished the night with four saves.
Hastings improves to 7-3 (2-0) on the year and will be back in action Tuesday Oct. 3 as Doane comes to town with kick-off set for 7:45 p.m. at Lloyd Wilson Field.
